ODU develops load cell connector
ODU
Load cell connector
ODU has developed a connector for linking load cells in weigh platforms, particularly those used for checking goods vehicles.
Each connector is cabled to link load cells at the corners of the weigh plates and the distance between load cells can be 3m to 12m.
The last unit is attached to a long cable, up to 200m, which is linked to the base station to transmit load measurements.
As the load cells are located under the platform in a large recess that can fill with water the connection must be sealed, in this instance by o-rings and encapsulation.
Furthermore, the housing receptacle seal to the load cell is achieved by welding and glass sealing.
This level of sealing provides moisture and dust protection for up to 20 years.
The cable has an external metal braid that acts as a shield and as protection against rodents.
The connectors have five contact positions.
Receptacle housings are stainless steel to allow welding, and plug housings and bayonet ring are zinc die-cast.
Sealing is IP68 and cable strain relief is provided through shield crimping.
ODU has a wide range of off-the-shelf connectors and also designs and develops numerous customer specific systems.
