Glass optical fibre modules for connector system
Multi-Contact
Glass optical fibre modules/Combitrac
Multi-Contact has introduced glass optical fibre modules for its Combitrac connector system, used for data transfer in a range of industrial sectors.
The four-pole connectors accept 3mm-diameter single or multimode fibre, with the graded index fibre types being 50/125um or 62.5/125um.
If preferred, sockets and pins can be supplied pre-assembled with 1m-long fibre, terminated with either ST or SC standard connectors.
Insertion losses are less than 0.5dB at 1,310nm, depending on assembly type.
Contact pressure is 10N per contact with 3mm spring deflection.
The contacts are rated for more than 500 mating cycles, with a cleaning interval every 100 cycles.
The rated temperature range is -30C to +90C.
Applications include factory automation, medical equipment and the in rail industry for control and passenger information systems.
In addition to optical fibre contacts, the Combitrac system can be fitted with any combination of high-voltage, high-current, databus, power, thermocouple, coaxial, pneumatic, and fluid connectors.
The contact carriers are housed in a compact, robust frame for panel mounting or built into DIN coupler hoods.
