RSC Illustris connector
Deutsch has launched the RSC Illustris expanded-beam connector to enhance the RSC physical contact connector.
The RSC Illustris incorporates the patent-pending EBOSA (expanded-beam optical assembly) technology from Gigacom, a Swedish fibre-optic component manufacturer, and builds on the Deutsch RSC physical contact connector.
It uses a precision-aligned EBOSA to make the optical interface less sensitive to dust to give a repeatable typical insertion loss of around 1.0dB to 1.5dB for single-mode fibres and 0.5dB to 1.0dB for multimode fibres.
The technology incorporated into this connector uses free air communication, which is intended to improve transmission efficiency while expanding the optical signal by up to 2,000 times its original size.
The RSC Illustris can be maintained and repaired in the field using standard tooling, making it suitable for industrial and military ground vehicles as well as the aerospace market.
The product will be formally launched at the Defence Systems and Equipment International (DSEi) event at London's Excel exhibition centre on 8-11 September 2009.
