Snap-Lock SMA plug connector
Tyco Electronics has launched a Snap-Lock SMA series plug connector that is compatible with a standard SMA jack connector.
Traditional mating of the SMA interface requires threading of the plug onto the jack to a specified torque level (typically 7-10 in/lbs).
This process takes time, involves wear on the mating components, and often requires a separate tool to ensure that the prescribed mating torque is achieved.
The Snap-Lock SMA series plug connector has inner contact fingers that slide over the threads of the mating SMA jack and lock into place by engaging the outer collar.
Disengagement is achieved by pulling back on the outer collar.
Tyco said the design reduces wear on the components and saves time in mating and unmating.
The connector series is ideal for test and instrumentation purposes, as well as mobile base-station filters and cable assemblies.
The Snap-Lock SMA series product is offered in straight and right-angle cable plug configurations and as a SMA jack to Snap-Lock SMA plug adapter.
The series has an operating temperature range of -65C to +165C, 50 ohms impedance, and good performance at frequencies up to 6 GHz.
