Hyperjack 1000
Molex Incorporated has introduced the Hyperjack 1000 Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) integrated connector module (ICM).
The device is suitable for applications in Gigabit Ethernet switches, routers, hubs and industrial Ethernet switches and routers.
This multi-port module integrates magnetics to support Ethernet 10/100/1000Mbps and embeds the PoE+ power management functions in an RJ-45 connector.
The design of the HyperJack 1000 combines PoE+ controller silicon to manage and deliver 30W PoE, coupled with Gigabit PoE+ magnetics, thermal management and protection against ESD, EFT and EMI.
It also meets the pending PoETec V2.0 protocol, allowing for industry wide adoption.
The HyperJack 1000 PoE+ ICM features a 0-70C operating temperature and two bi-colour LEDs per port, giving it the capability to indicate up to eight operating states.
PoE technology allows end users to power and communicate with network devices over an Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for separate power supplies.
The existing 15W IEEE 802.3af standard is used to power connected Ethernet devices such as VoIP phones, wireless access points and security cameras.
Due to be ratified in 2009, the 30W IEEE 802.3at standard, also known as PoE+, will make self-powered equipment with higher power requirements possible.
These include WiMax transmitters, PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras, 802.11n wireless access points, video phones, laptops, thin-client computers and point-of-sale terminals.
PoE+ is also backward compatible with the 15W existing standard, being able to power both 802.3af and 802.3at powered devices concurrently.
