AMP Ethernet cabling system optimises rack space

TE Connectivity

MRJ21 Ultra Slim cable assembly

The AMP Netconnect business of Tyco Electronics has announced the general availability of its reduced-diameter MRJ21 Ultra Slim Gigabit Ethernet cabling system.

The trimmed-down MRJ21 Ultra Slim cable assembly is 9.14mm in diameter, weighs 40 per cent less than comparable four-pair cabling systems, occupies 45 per cent less rack space, requires 25 per cent less power per port, and can help to reduce data-centre operating costs, according to AMP.

The MRJ21 Ultra Slim cable assembly is suitable for data-centre customers seeking to optimise space in the rack, on the floor and throughout cable pathways.

'The design of our MRJ21 ultra-slim cable improves airflow, dissipates heat more efficiently and reduces overall power consumption,' said David Richens, senior system application engineer at Tyco Electronics.

Installation of the MRJ21 Ultra Slim cabling system can be six to 10 times faster than four-pair cabling, with reductions in the cable management and routing problems of bundled cabling systems.

The MRJ21 Ultra Slim cabling system supports six ports of Gigabit Ethernet interface, which increases the number of ports customers can include in a single rack.

Whereas traditional four-pair cable bundles add weight and create clutter, AMP said the MRJ21 Ultra Slim cabling system reduces cable mass, bend radius and weight without sacrificing performance.
