FBAR duplexers for mobile handsets and terminals
Avago Technologies
4G/LTE Band 7 duplexer
Avago Technologies has launched a 4G/LTE Band 7 duplexer to its line of high-isolation, 2 x 2.5mm film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) duplexers for mobile handsets and data terminals.
The FBAR duplexer will enable manufacturers to build handsets for the emerging 4G/LTE standard that are optimised for quality of voice service and battery life.
The ACMD-6007's low 2.1dB maximum insertion loss in the transmit channel minimises current drain from the power amplifier and therefore extends handset battery life and talk time.
The 2.5dB receive channel insertion loss is said to improve receiver sensitivity and dynamic range for better signal quality and an improved user experience.
Handset receiver sensitivity and dynamic range is improved by the ACMD-6007 as it attenuates the transmit channel by 50dB minimum in the receive channel, reducing transmit-generated noise in the receive band.
This eliminates the need for interstage filters, making the handset less costly and freeing space that can be used for additional features.
The miniature ACMD-6007 is designed for LTE Band 7 (2500-2570MHz uplink, 2620-2690MHz downlink).
Avago said its proprietary FBAR filter and patented Microcap wafer-level silicon packaging technology produces an air-mounted resonator with high Q for sharp, low-loss filtering.
The 33dBm transmit power handling capability of the ACMD-6007 supports the high output power levels used in mobile communications applications while adding virtually no distortion.
The bulk filter structure is said to be better at handling the transmit power levels found in handsets than surface acoustic wave (SAW) technology based filters, especially in the higher frequency bands.
