Fibre-optic multiplexer ideal for mobile operators
RAD Data Communications
Optimux-134/125 multiplexer
RAD Data Communications has released a fibre-optic multiplexer, which is designed to address the needs of carriers and service providers, mobile operators and large enterprise applications.
The Optimux-134/-125 provides a simple and cost-effective solution for transporting multiple TDM links and Ethernet at distances of up to 110km (68 miles).
The multiplexer features a Fast Ethernet port, enabling a full 100Mbps Ethernet connection, and a 16 E1 or 16 T1 channel capacity.
The transmission of each of the tributary channels is independent, as the product transports the data and the clocking signals transparently over each TDM link.
Elad Harf, Optimux product line manager at RAD Data Communications, said: 'The migration to all-packetised networks is, of course, affecting telecom infrastructures and services.
'But there remains an enormous base of customers that demand both legacy TDM and new packet-switched services.
'Because it is a single-box solution, the Optimux-134/-125 enables carriers and service providers to respond to this customer need while reducing their CapEx and OpEx.
'Mobile operators will find the new Optimux fibre multiplexers ideal for backhauling 2G voice, 3G and HSPA transparently from rural locations to a central site over fibre.
'In such applications, the Optimux acts as a fibre extender over long hops, eliminating the need to deploy multiple devices along the route.
'In addition, the Optimux-134 and Optimux-125 can be deployed for the multi-service sharing of TDM and Ethernet for voice and data connectivity using a point-to-point topology over dark fibre.
'They answer the needs of university campuses, hospitals and health maintenance organisations and financial institutions as well as government offices and military installations,' added Harf.
The Optimux-134 and Optimux-125 are part of RAD's Axcess+ multi-service access and first-mile solutions portfolio.
Axcess+ offers a variety of narrowband and broadband data rates over fibre, copper and wireless infrastructure.
It provides a smooth migration path from legacy to next-generation packet-switched networking and services.
