Single-chip touchscreen controllers from Cypress enable direct lamination to the LCD

The single-chip controllers allow manufacturers to deposit conductive indium tin oxide sensor lines directly onto the cover glass and only require a single panel — enabling the creation of thinner tablets.

Additionally, the cover glass can be directly laminated onto the LCD using a thin adhesive layer and no shield layer.

The controllers are suitable for multi-touch touchscreens measuring up to 11.6in (29.5cm) and offer 60 sensing I/O channels and support for up to 884 nodes on the screen.

According to the company, the additional sensing channels allow improved accuracy and linearity, support for smaller-sized fingers and the ability to resolve multiple fingers close together.
