Vandal-resistant metal keypads

Foremost Electronics, an Essex-based specialist distributor of electromechanical components, has introduced two vandal-resistant metal keypads.

Responding to a need for secure and rugged security switching, these compact, low-profile metal keypads may be used in public and industrial environments for access control, security, data entry, vending machines and kiosks, environmental control and service access.

The keypads are suitable for use in low-light conditions as they feature light-emitting-diode (LED) illumination in a choice of blue, green or yellow.

Both keypads feature metal keys, which are waterproof to IP67, and are rear-panel mounted through a single large cut-out with an optional rubber gasket for additional weatherproof sealing.

Two versions are available: the AK-304-N-SSL-WP-MM 3 x 4 numeric-key-only keypad and the AK-1604-N-SSL-WP-MM 4 x 4 numeric plus a row of A-, B-, C- and D-lettered keys.

Custom legend options are available with a minimum order quantity of 2,000 pieces plus nominal tooling costs.

Switch contact ratings are 20mA at 24VDC with maximum contact resistance of 200ohm.

Life expectancy is two million cycles per key with an operating temperature of -40C to +60C.

The LED illumination requires a nominal 3.5VDC supply.

Alternatively, keypads may be specified without illumination.
