A series of custom-made LCDmonitors and small form factor industrial embedded PC systemsengineered to receive 'real-time' CCTV and Internetfeeds have been installed in the Orientation Wall at FACT, whichopened earlier this year.
The GBP 10 million centre, designed byaward-winning architect Austin-Smith:Lord, is Liverpool'sfirst purpose-built cultural project for over 60 years and seeksto bring technology and art closer together for the benefit ofthe public.
In addition to two exhibition galleries and threestate-of-the-art cinemas, the centre houses MITES (the MovingImage Touring and Exhibition Service - a resource used by museumsand galleries across the UK), the medialab, a digital masteringservice and a transmission suite which provides artists with themost up-to-date technology available.
Situated in thecentre's main foyer, the Orientation Wall features 14 LCDscreens housed in custom-made, brushed stainless-steelenclosures.
While the wall's lower tier of seven 18inmonitors display live gallery and cinema programme information,an upper tier of seven 15in screens carries a collage of liveimages featuring events and visitors captured by CCTV cameraslocated throughout the building.
In addition to providingcustomised monitors, Amplicon was also commissioned to providethe seven small-form-factor industrial embedded PC systems withVIA C3 processors that run the display programmes.
"We areextremely pleased with the contribution that Amplicon Livelinehas made to this project", comments Clive Gillman, LeadArtist and Associate Director for FACT.
"It underlines theirability to customise product technology in a way that fully meetsspecification requirements and we are now talking with them aboutseveral other collaborative ventures for the future"."This has been a prestigious contract for us", addsMike Wood, Managing Director of Amplicon Liveline, "whichbuilds on our extensive experience in the embedded computingfield for commercial applications.
It also reinforces thestrength of Amplicon's 30 years of application expertiseacross a broad range of industry environments".
