Display modules
Taretronics has launched four- and eight-character display modules that feature bright red or bright blue 17.8mm dot matrix LEDs.
The display modules interface to host equipment via an I2C 400 KHz two-wire serial data link.
The I2C link controls the display modules with 20 high-level, simple commands.
96 standard ASCII character fonts, and up to 11 user-designed fonts, are available for selection via the I2C interface.
Up to 63 characters may be entered in message buffer RAM.
Selected characters from the message buffer may be statically displayed, or all 63 characters may be displayed as a moving message.
Characters may be changed, dimmed, or blinked by the fast I2C interface.
Moving message speed and blink speeds are selectable.
Each individual display module may be assigned one of eight I2C addresses.
This allows up to eight display modules to be individually controlled while sharing an I2C bus.
Multiple modules may be mounted side-by-side and synchronised to attractively display a moving message.
The 63-character message buffer RAM may be saved to EEPROM to retain messages when power is off.
Upon power-up, display modules can automatically display a stored static or moving message.
The EEPROM also retains the I2C address; user-designed fonts; and mode of operation.
