Harting assembly tool

Harting has introduced a tool that is designed to simplify and speed up the assembly of polymer optic fibres within industrial automation environments where pre-assembled system cables are not normally used.

The assembly tool — which produces connections with low attenuation levels — allows both precise cutting and stripping, according to the company.

Both single optical-fibre connectors are simultaneously stripped and cut with a circular knife; the front face of the fibre is said to be cut in such a way that there is no need for subsequent polishing.

Product specifications

• One cutting unit can be used for more than 1,200 cuts

• Visual display signals how many cuts can still be made, enabling arrangements for a new cutting unit to be made in good time

• Reliable assembly is said to be guaranteed, with reproducible cutting and attenuation results
