Ovation unveils Stinger adhesive dispenser

Stinger adhesive dispenser
Ovation Products launched its Stinger low-volume adhesive dispenser at the Apex exhibition in Las Vegas at the beginning of April.
Stinger enables dual-function capability from a single-screen printer.
Ovation's Stinger modular dispensing technology is claimed to transform traditional screen-printing platforms into dual-function systems, enhancing the capability of the machine by enabling a dispensing process on board the printing system and, thus, saving floor space and reducing equipment costs.
Integrated into the screen printer alongside the machine's vision system, the Stinger dispensing module operates in the same way as an inline dispenser: once the printed circuit board is screen printed, it is lowered down to vision height, where the Stinger can then accurately dispense adhesive or paste using industry-standard materials cartridges.
Neil MacRaild, Ovation Products's president, said: 'Traditionally, adhesive is used to secure surface-mount devices [SMDs] to the underside of the board during wave soldering or for large components in a reflow system.
'Stinger is pioneering advances in this area by allowing manufacturers to dispense adhesive dots on a pre-programmed pattern after the paste printing process has completed,' he added.
Said to be suitable for customers working with mixed technology boards, Stinger features patented technology to eliminate unnecessary stoppages and raise productivity.
Stinger dispenses through a patented consumable auger valve technology contained within the system module.
Enabling adhesive changeover and eliminating the need for system cleaning, the removed valve is re-usable, further speeding up product changeover.
Minimising manual intervention to prevent production errors and to streamline dispensing performance, Stinger is compatible with a range of print platforms.
