Axiomtek announces entry-level network appliance

Axiomtek

NA-200A network appliance

Axiomtek is launching the NA-200A, an entry-level network appliance powered by a system-on-a-chip Intel EP80579 1.2GHz processor embedded SKU for SOHO market.

The Intel EP80579 is the first in a series of system-on-a-chip (SoC) processors that combine a memory controller hub, an I/O controller hub and a CPU.

Sized 44mm x 220mm x 151mm, the NA-200A comes with six high-speed Gigabit LAN ports.

The compact network security platform supports one DDR2 SODIMM None-ECC memory, plus an optional DDR2 SOCDIMM ECC memory.

Axiomtek's NA-200A is suitable for firewalls, VPN, anti-spam and antivirus applications, as well as intrusion detection and prevention.

By using the Intel EP80579 processor, Axiomtek said that the NA-200A achieves reduced power consumption up to 34 per cent, improves computing performance and offers comprehensive I/O.

IT security OEMs can migrate existing 32-bit applications to the Intel EP80579 product line because of its x86 code base compatibility.

The hardware system's storage interfaces include one 2.5in SATA2 HDD and a Compactflash card.

To prevent problems from sudden shutdown, the NA-200A supports LAN bypass function through WDT and GPIO pin definitions.

It also features function of BIOS redirection to console port.

Other I/O features and expansion slots include two USB, one RJ-45 console port, one Mini PCI, and a system reset switch.

The NA-200A supports mainstream Linux Kernel 2.6 and 2.4 operating systems.

This network security appliance will be available around end of June 2009.
