Bluetooth and NFC
Green Hills Software has announced an agreement with Stollmann E and V, a developer of communication protocol software, to supply Bluetooth and near field communication (NFC) systems.
The first result of the agreement, which will be demonstrated at Embedded World 09 in Nuremberg (3-5 March), is the NFC profile for the Integrity real-time operating system (RTOS).
This will provide support for NFC-enabled devices in contactless secure access and mobile payment applications.
Green Hills and Stollmann are also cooperating on a Bluetooth health device profile (HDP) for Integrity.
This will enable developers of medical applications to design in line with the standards of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) quickly and efficiently, ensuring interoperability with other medical devices worldwide.
The combination of Green Hills Software's secure Integrity RTOS and kernel-aware development toolchain with Stollmann's standards-compliant protocol stacks provides embedded software engineers with a complete development environment for localised wireless applications.
Bluetooth profiles define how different applications use Bluetooth wireless technology to set up a connection and exchange data.
The Bluetooth health device profile was developed to ensure that devices used in medical, health and fitness applications can transfer data to other devices in a secure and well-defined way via wireless technology.
The health market is increasingly making use of wireless technology to connect equipment.
Most of the connections are between a computing device, for example a home health station, telemedicine device or computer, and portable devices such as sensors monitoring heart rate, blood pressure or glucose level.
The transmission of data can take place transparently to the user, requiring no physical intervention.
Wireless applications can also free the elderly from more cumbersome monitoring systems, allowing movement rather than confinement to a room or bed.
