MES module supplied by LC Automation helps Kawasaki to improve production efficiencies

LC Automation

Q series MES module

A Mitsubishi manufacturing execution system (MES) module supplied by LC Automation has helped hydraulic specialist Kawasaki Precision Machinery (KPM) to improve production efficiencies at its facility in Plymouth.

The Q series MES module is designed to enable users to interface their production control systems directly to an MES database, removing the need for an interfacing PC layer and specialist software.

KPM installed the single programmable logic controller in three areas of its production facility, which led to increased efficiencies and improved quality control.

Key benefits of product application

  • According to Steve Clarke, process controls engineer at KPM, installation of the Q series device has made the organisation more productive and efficient, in terms of both cost and time.
  • He added that the capabilities of the MES module have enabled the company to implement it further on the production line to make live production information and greater control available to a large number of personnel.
  • The module is used on a machining line that produces 60,000 components every year, helping to streamline the process.
  • On KPM’s hydraulic test rig control panel, the MES has allowed the team to retrieve the correct specifications every time, reducing cost and potential risk to the customer.
