True digital system
International Rectifier (IR) has announced that its digital power system featuring GUI-based VR design for real-time tuning and system-level optimisation is being used to power three-way digital X79 motherboards from Gigabyte, a manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards.
Featuring dynamic phase control and variable gate drive technology, IR’s true digital system is designed to enable a more efficient delivery of power to the processor over the entire load range, enhancing system performance.
The digital platform features a non-linear control architecture to allow the best dynamic response with a reduced output capacitor count to keep up with the demanding and highly variable workloads of the processor, according to the company.
The system also provides a full suite of telemetry via a built-in I2C digital interface to offer the real-time monitoring of voltage, current, temperature and power to fully optimise and maximise power delivery to the processor.
