Power supply drives large LED lighting arrays
Sunpower
PLEC-035S035DT power supply
Sunpower has launched the PLEC-035S035DT power supply series for applications including solid-state lighting, moving signs, LED-based decorative lighting, LED electronic displays and more.
The power supply provides up to 100VDC output at 350mA.
Its constant current capability makes it ideal for driving large LED lighting arrays, according to the company.
The 35W supply automatically delivers a consistent, optimum current into a series string of any length from nine to 28 LED lamps.
Parallel LED strings can also be added, subject to the total output current capacity of the power supply.
LED brightness can be set by a dimming control using a potentiometer or 0-10VDC input signal.
The PLEC unit's input voltage range of 90-305VAC is suitable for use in US and worldwide industrial applications, including those using 277VAC.
Efficiency of up to 88 per cent, high input power factor of up to 0.99 and plotted interior allow cool running operation with a service life typically two to four times greater than normal products, Sunpower said.
The unit is said to be reliable and rugged with a mean time before failure of up to 541,000 hours, IP67 protection from dust and water ingress, lightning protection and an operating temperature range of -35C to +70C.
The PLEC-035S035DT also features over-voltage, short-circuit and overload protection.
These protection modes allow the power supply to recover automatically once the fault condition is removed.
Certification includes: EN 61347, UL and CAN/CSA safety standards, and EMC compliance to EN 55015, EN 61000 and EN 61547.
The unit is surge tested to 4kV.
The PLEC-035S035DT is one member of Sunpower's PLEC-035SxxxDT series, which offers professional LED lighting designers and installers a wide choice of DC output voltage and current configurations.
The series comprises nine constant-current 35W models with output currents ranging from 2,900mA to 350mA, and output voltages from 12VDC to 100VDC.
All models can be specified without the dimming function if required.
Users can choose the higher output current models for predominantly parallel LED lamp arrays, or the higher output voltage models for predominantly serial LED lamp strings.
