Medium-voltage power MOSFETs in Canpak package

Optimos medium-voltage power MOSFETs
Infineon Technologies has announced that Optimos medium-voltage power MOSFETs for industrial applications are now available in the Canpak package.
These products can be used in applications such as DC/DC converters, solar micro-inverters, maximum power point trackers in solar energy systems, low-voltage drives, and synchronous rectification for servers.
The addition of 60V-150V MOSFETs to the Infineon Canpak portfolio is said to enable system engineers to optimise designs for power density, efficiency and good thermal behaviour while requiring minimum board space.
This optimisation contributes to cost savings and long operating life in applications ranging from servers to renewable energy systems.
Compared with standard discrete packages, the Canpak metal 'can' construction enables double-sided cooling along with almost no package parasitic inductances, leading to high efficiency and system miniaturisation.
Thermal resistance on the top side of the package is low (1.5K/W versus 55K/W for a traditional DPAK), which allows efficient device cooling from still air convection in the power conversion systems of solar energy installations or fan-assisted airflow, which is common in servers for data centres.
The advantages of Canpak are said to be complemented by the performance of Optimos MOSFETs, which feature low RDS(on), and Q g across the entire voltage range.
Low gate charge (Q g) is said to result in low switching losses in fast switching applications, such as isolated DC/DC converters for telecom applications as well as solar micro-inverters and maximum power point trackers in solar energy systems.
Infineon said its Canpak products exhibit low power losses in high-current applications such as motor control.
They are also suitable for industrial applications such as synchronous rectification in switched mode power supplies.
