PLEC-120SxxxDT LED driver family
Sunpower has announced that its power LED PLEC-120SxxxDT driver family for moving signs, backlighting, LED-based decorative lighting and more has been approved to the UL 8750 safety standard.
The units have a -35C to +65C operating temperature range with no output derating.
The PLEC-120SxxxDT family comprises a set of 120W constant current drivers with output currents rating from 350 to 4,900mA and corresponding output voltages from 343 to 24V.
This allows the family to cater for all LED array configurations, whether predominantly parallel, predominantly serial or hybrid.
All of the family's drivers are dimmable through a 1-10VDC input with a linear control function.
The units operate from a 90-305VAC range and are suitable for US and worldwide industrial installations, including those using 277VAC.
The PLEC-120SxxxDT products are highly reliable as well as safe in rugged environments.
Built into a compact aluminium case, they have IP67 water and dust ingress protection as well as protection from lightning strikes.
Electrical protection is also assured, with the units featuring over-voltage, over-temperature and short-circuit protection.
For extra safety, over-voltage protection uses latching - this means the mains must be cycled to reset the driver after an over-voltage event.
The cool-running, fan-less units are said to offer an ultra-high efficiency of up to 91 per cent, which is further enhanced by active power factor correction achieving a 0.99 typical power factor.
The UL8750 approval completes the PLEC-120SxxxDT family's international safety and EMC certification, which also includes CAN/CSA-C22.2 Canadian safety standards, EN 61347 European safety standards, and EN 61000, 55015 and 61547 EMC standards.
Additional applications include LED-based architectural lighting, LED stage and theatre lighting, and LED electronic displays.
