Diodes unveils 1A-rated linear-mode LED driver

Diodes Incorporated

DLD101 LED driver

Diodes Incorporated has introduced a 1A-rated linear-mode constant-current light-emitting-diode (LED) driver.

The DLD101 LED driver is specifically designed to reduce the size and cost of a range of general illumination products, including flashlights and lighting in emergency, garden and poolside applications.

Packaged in an optimised small-footprint, low-profile DFN package, the highly integrated DLD101 LED driver provides designers with board-space savings, with the package's high thermal efficiency assuring high power dissipation.

By integrating a base-accessible pre-biased transistor, the driver can incorporate biasing resistors on chip, meaning that LED current setting is now via a single external resistor, without the need for an additional boost transistor.

For the pass element, a high-drain-current 60V N-channel Mosfet has been used instead of a bipolar transistor to reduce overall bias current.

As well as reducing the size of the printed circuit board and the external component count of alternative LED driver solutions, the DLD101 also completely removes the EMI signature associated with switching regulator solutions.

The DLD101 1A linear-mode constant-current LED driver is priced at USD0.25 (GBP0.15) each in quantities of 10,000.
