Cissoid manufactures isolated gate driver suitable for railways and aircraft

Cissoid

Hades isolated gate driver

The Hades isolated gate driver from Cissoid is designed for use with high-density power transistors, specifically (but not exclusively) silicon carbide and gallium nitride units — for example, motor drives, power distributors and battery chargers — in applications within railways, aircraft, renewable energies and hybrid and electric vehicles.

According to the company, the Hades gate driver can resist high temperatures, which allows it to be placed next to power converters and cut down on parasitic capacitances and inductances.

It can drive two SiC MOSFET switches at a DC bus voltage of up to 1,200V, requires a 12V supply and is made up of a reference design (scalable up to a ±20A current) and evaluation board (±4A). Full documentation is provided.

The unit also includes a range of protection functions, including undervoltage lockout, desaturation detection and an ’Active Miller Clamping’ function that prevents the Miller capacitor of the power switch from being turned on parasitically.

Boards suitable for normally on JEFTs will be available and minor changes can be made to support other devices such as normally-on/off JFETs, BJTs and IGBTs.
