Linear charger ICs
Torex Semiconductor has unveiled the XC6802 series of linear charger ICs for single-cell lithium-ion batteries.
Available in the ultra-small USP-6C package, as well as in standard SOT-25 and SOT-89-5 versions, the XC6802 includes: a reference voltage source; battery voltage monitor; driver transistor; constant-current/constant-voltage charge circuit; over-heat protection circuit; and phase compensation circuit.
The battery charge termination voltage is internally set to 4.2V +/- 0.7 per cent and the trickle charge voltage and accuracy is 2.9V +/- 3 per cent.
In a typical application circuit, when the BAT pin voltage rises above 2.9V, the charger enters into constant-current mode (CC mode) and the battery is charged by the programmed current charge.
When the BAT pin voltage reaches 4.2V, the charger enters constant-voltage mode (CV mode) automatically.
After this, the charge current drops to a tenth of the programmed charge current and the charge terminates.
The charge status output pin - /CHG pin - is capable of checking the device's charging state while connected to an external LED.
With an external resistor (RSEN) between the ISEN pin and the VSS pin, the charge current can be set anywhere up to a maximum of 800mA.
This flexibility makes the XC6802 Series the ideal choice for a variety of battery charge applications.
Typical applications include charging docks and stationary chargers, MP3 and other portable audio players, mobile phones and PDAs as well as various Bluetooth applications.
