Allegro Microsystems offers MOSFET pre-driver IC for extreme applications

Allegro Microsystems

A4933

Allegro Microsystems has introduced the A4933, an automotive-grade three-phase MOSFET pre-driver IC, designed for the control of brushless DC motors in applications such as electronic power steering systems, engine cooling fans, transmission actuators and hydraulic pumps.

According to the company, the A4933 is primarily targeted at extreme applications where high power, high torque and high temperature conditions demand large MOSFET gate drive and switching capabilities.

It is claimed to be particularly suitable for use in three-phase systems, especially those that use sinusoidal control of the motor phase currents.

This MOSFET pre-driver IC also has an integrated charge pump, which provides full gate drive for battery voltages down to 7V and reduced gate drive for battery voltages as low as 5.5V.

Key features

  • Integrated charge pump provides full gate drive for battery voltages
  • Top-off charge pump enables 100 per cent pulse-width modulation
  • Dead time can be regulated by the user
  • Adjustable drain-to-source monitor
  • Improved fault diagnostics
