AC/DC power modules for medical applications

Campbell Collins

PMmed and PCMmed modules

Campbell Collins has introduced a range of AC/DC power modules from MTM Power of Germany.

The PMmed and PCMmed modules are specifically designed for safety-critical medical applications.

Available with output power levels of 15W, 24W, 48W, 60W, 75W and 100W, the PMmed and PCMmed modules enable worldwide operation with an input-voltage range of 90-264VAC (50/60Hz).

Output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V, 24V, 36V and 48V are available, making the units suitable for MRI, X-ray, CT and PET scanners, blood analysers, patient monitors and robotic surgical devices.

With leakage currents of less than 100uA and isolation levels of 4kVAC, the units exceed the requirements of IEC/EN/UL60601-1 and IEC/EN/UL60950-1.

Efficiency levels for the units are as high as 90 per cent, catering for high power densities and small package sizes.

The construction techniques used are vacuum encapsulated in a UL94-V0-rated enclosure, which also enables thermal transfer, particularly when using the optional chassis-mount case (PCMmed).

The operating temperature range is from -25C to +70C and the devices are designed for free convection cooling.

The devices include overload protection, allow for continuous short circuits to be handled without damage and provide hold-up times of up to 50ms.

EMI and RFI standards such as EN60601-2, EN55011 (Class B), EN61000-3-2 and EN61000-3-x are also met by the modules, without any external circuitry or compromise to leakage currents, according to the company.
