NXP and Pegatron create half-size TV tuner card

NXP Semiconductors

Hybrid DVB-T TV tuner card

NXP Semiconductors and Pegatron have produced the Hybrid DVB-T TV tuner card at half the size of a minicard, with the help of NXP's multi-standard TDA18271 silicon tuner.

Pegatron also adopted the highly integrated NXP SAA7231NE A/V decoder, which supports reception of both analogue TV and DVB-T signals from different sources - such as cable and terrestrial programmes - and features low power consumption, which made it possible to develop the Hybrid DVB-T product in half-minicard form factor.

The NXP SAA7231 family is suitable for TV cards in current and future versions of Microsoft Media Centre Edition (MCE) PCs, with support for analogue, DVB-T and DVB-S broadcasts, as well as an integrated MCE-compliant IR controller for a full-function remote control.

A video processing engine decodes the analogue AV stream for features such as PVR and time shifting, while adaptive 2D noise reduction improves picture quality.

The SAA7231 also includes certified three-level Macrovision detection circuitry to keep the video's original analogue copy protection intact.
