TR-069 solution
DS2 and Works Systems have announced the immediate availability of a TR-069-compliant home-networking solution based on both companies' technologies.
TR-069 is a suite of standard protocols, created by the Broadband Forum, to manage end-user devices in broadband networks, such as DSL routers, IPTV set-top boxes or VoIP adapters.
The DS2/Work Systems implementation provides a turn-key solution for equipment manufacturers and service providers that want to deploy a TR-069-managed powerline home network.
It allows service providers to perform several remote-management tasks, such as upgrading the embedded firmware of all DS2-based powerline adapters in the home network, upload configuration parameters or performance logs to a central server to verify correct installation, and adding frequency notches to installed equipment.
According to a 2008 Yankee Group study, more than 50 per cent of all first-year subscriber acquisition costs are from technical and service support.
The remaining costs are due to the installation of the IPTV service at the subscriber's premises.
Powerline home networks based on DS2's technology reduce these costs because they are easy to use, allow self installation and enable a two-way communications channel to the call centre, to improve customer support and service quality.
