TMPM380FY microcontroller
Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced an ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller that features a single 5V supply.
Offering low power consumption, the TMPM380FY combines serial connectivity with a number of onboard features and peripherals that meet the specific needs of industrial and home-appliance designs.
The TMPM380FY is the first in a series of 5V Cortex-M3 devices that will reduce the component count and simplify the development of embedded designs for industrial and white-goods applications.
Integrated functionality includes the ability to drive motors and control IGBTs, high-accuracy analogue-to-digital conversion (ADC) and an oscillation frequency detector (OFD).
The latter facilitates the hardware monitoring of the central-processing-unit clock to simplify compliance with the IEC60730 (Class B) home-appliance safety standard.
Toshiba's new microcontroller is supplied with 256Kbyte of on-chip Flash memory and 16KByte of on-chip RAM.
A three-channel 16bit multi-purpose timer (MPT) provides a function that combines three-phase pulse-width-modulation control with an ADC trigger and a protection circuit.
The timer can be used to deliver an externally triggered 16bit PPG output for IGBT control.
Additional onboard functionality includes power on reset (PoR) and voltage detection (VLTD), an 18-channel 12bit ADC, a two-channel encoder input circuit, a watchdog timer (WDT) and a real-time clock (RTC).
The encoder circuit offers a three-phase sensor input and supports rotation direction and absolute position detection.
In terms of serial connectivity, the TMPM380FY offers design flexibility.
A general-purpose serial interface is configurable for either synchronous mode or up to five UARTs, while the built-in two-channel serial bus interface offers I2C or synchronous-mode operation.
A two-channel synchronous serial bus interface supports SPI flame, SSI flame and Microwire flame formats.
Toshiba can supply the new microcontroller in a 100-pin QFP or 100-pin LQFP package.
The device has an operating voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V and a maximum operating frequency of 40MHz.
Various standby modes help to ensure minimum power consumption when the ARM core is not active.
As with other microcontrollers in Toshiba's ARM Cortex-M3 series, a starter kit for the TMPM380FY will also be available.
