Versaclock III
Integrated Device Technology (IDT) has added the Versaclock III to its range of Versaclock timing devices.
Versaclock III devices are programmable clock generators designed for use in high-performance consumer, telecommunications, networking and data-communications applications.
They provide a more cost-effective alternative to using multiple crystals and oscillators.
These Versaclocks are critical in reducing board space and maintaining power efficiency where volumes may not allow full custom solutions.
Multiple systems with widely varying requirements can consolidate to fewer of these programmable devices, improving inventory management.
For greatest possible design flexibility, the IDT Versaclock range features four internal PLLs, each individually programmable and able to generate four unique frequencies.
In addition, EMI-reducing spread spectrum technology is available on two of the PLLs, ensuring the highest possible signal integrity.
For greater integration, VCXO versions are available to ensure IDT customers receive compatibility with industry timing standards.
The new timing devices also feature an I2C interface, providing programmability during normal operation.
The internal EEPROM allows the user to save and restore configuration of the device without having to reprogram it on power-up, saving valuable design time and maximising ROI.
To give designers even greater options, the Versaclock devices can generate frequencies from 5kHz to 500MHz and are compatible with many different output types - from single-ended LVCMOS to differential LVDS, LVPECL and HCSL - meaning one device supports all timing systems.
The Versaclock III devices feature lower jitter and clock redundancy, with automatic or manual switchover function that allows the use of a secondary clock source to be selected if a clock error occurs during normal operation of the primary source, helping to improve timing and device performance.
The Versaclock devices are available in several packages, including 28-pin TSSOP and 32-pin VFQFPN packages.
Evaluation boards and samples of the new devices are now available to qualified customers.
