AS5510 sensor IC

Austriamicrosystems has introduced the AS5510 linear Hall sensor IC for applications such as closed-loop position control systems with space constraints such as zoom or autofocus camera systems.

Housed in a 1.46 x 1.1mm chip scale package, the AS5510 includes an IC two-wire serial interface for switching between four different sensitivity ranges and for simple transmission of data to a microcontroller.

Designed for consumer applications, the AS5510 magnetic linear encoder offers the size, features and performance required for contactless linear position sensing.

It can measure the absolute position of a simple two-pole magnet for a typical lateral stroke of 0.5-2mm with air gaps of 1mm.

With stronger magnets, even higher lateral strokes and air gaps are possible.

To minimise power consumption, the AS5510 can switch to a power-down mode with a current consumption of 25uA.

The IC interface provides a fast connection to the microcontroller without requiring additional analogue-to-digital conversion.

The combination of smallest possible system size, accurate and contactless sensing and lowest current consumption leads to an optimum fit for mobile electronic solutions.

'With an on-chip ADC and an IC interface, the AS5510 can communicate with the system microcontroller and also facilitates programming of the sensor,' said Alfred Binder, marketing manager for HMI devices at Austriamicrosystems.

'Its high level of integration simplifies system design complexity and eliminates problems associated with noise, gain and reference voltages,' he added.

The AS5510 linear Hall sensor IC is specified over the -30C to +85C temperature range, comes in a six-pin WLCSP and operates from a 2.5V to 3.6V supply voltage.
